What to Do When You Feel Alone, Confused and Unsupported on Your Spiritual Journey

What to Do When You Feel Alone, Confused and Unsupported on Your Spiritual Journey

Spiritual journeys aren't easy. There are moments along the quest where you will second guess your progress or the legitimacy of the understanding you worked so tirelessly to gain.

You'll find yourself in bouts of confusion, misguidance, retraction and  may even teeter on thoughts of calling it quits.

If you consider yourself to be on a spiritual journey or are on the path to pinpoint your purpose, you're more likely than not, a seeker. You're not a stranger to information overload and you're seeking direction and confirmation from knowledge outside of yourself that you are on the right road.

The process can be lonely and you can easily become the target of criticism, mockery, awkward conversation and strange looks. You may feel that you don't have the support you'd imagined and that can be a buzzkill to your confidence and enthusiasm.

Here's the thing: enlightenment can't be had without struggle. It's normal to feel like you're in a game of tug of war between the old you and the long awaited, awakened version of yourself.

Spiritual development and the realization of your task here on earth, requires you to develop complete trust in what's greater than you and what's within you. All the unwanted moments of tussle forces you in the direction you're meant to flow into - they're not meant to stop you.

I've become way more familiar than I'd like to admit with these lousy feelings, but have learned to work through them. If you can push yourself to master and practice these tips moment to moment, day to day - I guarantee they will create greater ease and fluidity in your process.

Ask the questions, Ask for help

If you're reading this, chances are you believe in advanced spirits, God or similar concepts. If this is the case, remember that help from your higher self and guiding spirits is never far - just ask for direction. If you're feeling worried, confused or uneasy about a situation or person - Pray or ask aloud your questions. Make quiet time to listen for an answer and take care to record your dreams, where answers are more easily revealed. Pay attention to people you meet throughout the day and happenstance occurrences that may reveal messages to you, which answer your questions. Just ASK and you'll be surprised the many ways answers reveal themselves to you.

Doubt & Confusion as an Opportunity to Practice Trust & Faith

It's easy to become defensive when you feel your beliefs and personal choices fall under attack, but use these instances as a way to confirm your beliefs. This is where trust and faith enter the conversation. If you're doubting that you are supported in life and here on purpose and for a purpose, the only way to combat those doubts is to apply faith and trust. It's hard to put your hope into unseen concepts - but regardless of your belief system - believing in support from the invisible seems to be the root of most spiritual ideas. You practice this by waking up each day, expressing gratitude for all of the blessings in your life and releasing control. Be open to whatever the day may bring and trust that you are supported, protected and led moment to moment. As you practice believing this, you'll soon begin to feel the presence of your help and doubt and confusion will wither away bit by bit.

Don't Take it Personal

Remember we are each here to learn unsimilar lessons and therefore walk the earth seeing through different lenses. Not everyone will get your point of view. Not everyone has lived your experiences and truths. Not everyone has the same destination. So, when you're feeling criticized by others, be mindful that they are on their own journey and it won't look or feel the same as your own, they can't be compared. Therefore, you can only attempt to share your perspective and express your experiences. Outsiders will have a few options: they can allow themselves to be inspired by your story, can hold onto the nuggets that make sense for them and leave the rest, or they simply won't get it - and that's okay. You can't control how they deliver or express their thoughts about your journey or beliefs, but you can remind yourself that not everyone is supposed to experience the world in the same way you do. Keep your calm and keep it moving!

When to Share & When to Withhold

You hold the power to speak and share when and what you choose. You should never feel pressured, or even obligated to open up about the intricate details of your spiritual practices. Belief is a highly personal experience and you have the power to choose who you allow to share this sacred part of you with. Of course, be mindful that when something is fabulous - we instinctively want to share! It' a beautiful thing to  reach a point of confidence and joy in your spirituality that you actually want to share and inspire others, but until you reach this place of solice and comfort, don't feel obligated to explain or defend what feels right to you. Save the drama for your mama!

Stop Listening to Everyone Else

People will always have opinions and suggestions for the way they think you should approach life, but you entered this world with your own inner compass that's meant to steer you onto your rightful path. It's easy to get so bogged down by the advice of others that you forget to listen and follow your intuitive self. Take time to distance yourself from the noise of society and tune in with what's within you and your guiding spirits to determine what moves to make and when. You don't always have to look outside of yourself for guidance. When you do choose to seek guidance from others, always confirm within yourself if that advice is sound and in conjunction with your path.

Values Shift from Generation to Generation

It's normal and good to seek advice and inspiration from those who come before us, but often times there are big shifts in thought between the generations. Keep this in mind when gathering knowledge and insight from those older or younger than you. We not only approach the world differently from person to person, but from generation to generation. Values morph and shift over the years. While the essence of spirituality and belief may remain the same, it will take on a different look and feel as time passes. Don't be shaken if you find yourself in conversations with those older or younger than you, in which it's difficult to see eye to eye on how belief and spirituality "should be" practiced.

Believe: Outcomes are First a Result of What you Think

We can't expect to uncover our spirituality and purpose without believing and having confidence in it's legitimacy. Without belief, there is nothing. If you don't first believe you can get out of bed in the morning and trust that your body can make the necessary movements to get up --- you won't get out of bed. If you don't believe and trust in your capability to get a promotion at work --- you won't get the promotion. If you  don't advance to a point in your journey where you believe and trust in the power of your beliefs --- nothing will happen. You give nothing, you get nothing. Believe in the power that motivates and creates everything around you! Look at the flowers that grow, babies that are born, revolutions that are birthed, passions that are ignited, ideas that are manifested, dreams that are made reality .... it takes belief to tip the wheel and keep it turning.
