The Importance of Water in your Spiritual Well-Being

The Importance of Water in your Spiritual Well-Being

Let's talk about water: wet, flexible, shapeshifting, hydrating, refreshing, cleansing water!

Water is a universal necessity: regardless of ethnic background, religion, or where you find yourself on the map - we all need it, but for you, Ms. Pisces, water is especially important for happiness and well-being.

As a Pisces woman, you’re most likely an absorber. You take on both the good and bad energies of other people and  environments. It’s easy for you to take on way more emotional baggage than you’d like and this can hinder your progress. Luckily, we've been abundantly blessed with a tool and natural source to aid in clearing undesirable energies and reviving our Aura, body and mind.

Here's a quick reminder of the value we place on water:

In Abrahamic religions, the devotee is immersed in water to purify their spirit and renew their commitment to Creator.

In Yoruba-rooted Spiritual practices water is offered to ancestors and larger-than-life deities to maintain the positive energy exchange between the living and forbearing spirits.

We’ve all heard the fact of our bodies being made up of roughly 60% of water.

The amniotic fluid in a mother’s womb is made up of mostly water (and baby’s urine, how lovely) to support the baby’s growth while in the uterus.

If you have the luxury of bathing each day or even washing your hands after a trip to the ladies’ room, you’re familiar with the sanitary benefits of water to remove unwanted organisms.

Aside from the usual, here are a few ways you can further incorporate water into your daily and weekly routines for spiritual and healing benefits:

Bath Time

The bathroom can be a safe haven for Ms. Pisces. Take care to fill this space with all the goodies to make bath time a relaxing, de-stressing experience. Add sea salt to pretty, clear glass jars. Not only does this make for beautiful décor, but sea salt also has amazing benefits for your skin including minimizing inflammation, removing dead skin (if used as a scrub) and is a great natural substance to deter dark spirits and negativity.

Keep a bottle of your favorite bubble bath to add some luxury to your personal spa experience, place fresh flowers near your vanity or sink, keep natural and handmade soaps on beautiful display dishes and add a small speaker in a corner to listen to soft, soothing music while soaking away.

I think of bath time as more then just a quick rinse experience. I take this time to slow down, reflect on my day and silently plan for my evening. I literally ask myself while in the tub, "Ke, what is it that you need right now?". This forces me to check-in with my body and listen to it! It will always tell you what it needs: to exercise, rest, meditate or if it is energized and centered enough to continue to support the things you have on your to-do list for the remainder of the day.

There are some evenings where I completely turn off the lights, lite candles and pray while taking my bath. My prayers are usually to "wash" away any negativity, worry or stress that I may have come in contact with throughout the day. I pray to rid myself of it completely and allow it to flow down the drain. Be sure to scrub the tub clean afterward of all physical and spiritual dirt and darkness.

Water Sounds

You don't always have to submerge yourself in water - you can also listen to it. The sound of water can be just as rejuvenating, calming and healing. Find a water playlist or soundtrack on Apple Music, Pandora or YouTube that's suitable to your taste. You'll find so many sound options: rain, ocean waves, waterfalls, flowing rivers and streams.

Take a listen while you're washing dishes, folding clothes, taking a bath, meditating or as you're falling asleep. You'll be surprised how quickly it can quiet and calm any chaos accumulated internally.

Visit the Water

There are countless traditions that celebrate, embrace and heed the guidance of water Goddesses and elevated Spirits. In most of these practices, it is believed that the bodies of water *are* the deity or an extension of. Regardless if this is your personal belief, there is something profound about being near water and gazing into it - it's transformational and centering. When you feel overwhelmed, confused or off-center carve out time to sit by a body of water.

Water is so essential to my own peace, I will travel to be near it. I recently took a trip to Ocala National Forest to soak in the sun and be near the natural springs. I've included a photo from my trip above.

I often take a few minutes each weekend to visit the Ocean and speak to Yemoja. I sit in a beach chair and silently pour out my feelings. I share any difficulties I'm experiencing, ask for guidance and give gratitude for the many sweet things in my life. I leave assured that my help is always, only a prayer and ask away.

Of course, If you live up to your fish-like tendencies, you can always take a swim or dip into a body of water, a hot tub or even a sauna.

Place it in Your Home

Grab a Feng Shui guide and study a Bagua Map to learn the most auspicious places in your home to place water features.

If you love animals (and don't mind the upkeep) build a beautiful aquarium or fish tank and fill with adorable, little water friends.

After thoroughly cleaning your home, place clear water and a few drops of a potent oil like Frankincense into a clear bowl and anoint all of the spaces and corners of your home. Walk through your space, while praying or speaking your intentions and using your fingertips to sprinkle the water throughout.

If you keep an altar, place clear water in a clean, glass or bowl and offer it to your ancestors, guardians and protective, guiding spirits. Water literally maintains life, so this offering will help to uplift them along with your prayers and positive communication with them.
